Individual Memberships

Full member: Intended for most people interested in participating in the business of the Society. Dues are $130.00 (USD) per calendar year, and should be paid by the end of January each year.

Student Member: Intended for those applicants following a full-time course of study in a relevant field at degree level or higher in an accredited institution of education. The grade may be held for a maximum of five years after the award of the highest degree for anyone in a post-doctoral post. Annual dues are $50.00 (USD), and the Newsletter must be accepted electronically. Applicants for Student Member Grade will be required to provide details of their academic tutor so that their student status may be confirmed.

Retired Member: Intended for those Full Members who reach an age where they no longer work full time, yet wish to retain contact with the Society and it's facilities. Annual dues are $50.00 (USD), and should be paid by the end of January each year.

Developing Country Member: Intended to recognize the difficulties that may be faced by applicants from countries where the economy is not yet fully developed, as defined by the International Monetary Fund list of emerging and developing economies. Annual dues are $40.00 (USD); this concession is only available to those living and working in the Developing Country. The current (2024) list of countries on the IMF list is:

At the 12th ISSFAL Congress held in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2016, ISSFAL announced a new classification of esteemed ISSFAL member entitled the ISSFAL Fellow.  Fellows shall have achieved distinction in scientific contributions to fatty acid and lipid science, and shall have provided sustained, positive contributions to the ISSFAL organization. Read more here.
